Brief
This project's objective was to re-illustrate two spreads of a children's book and pitch this new direction. The book selected was Wolf in the Snow by Matthew Cordell. It's a story about a lost wolf pup found in the wilderness by a young girl who befriends the pup and is able to reconnect the pup with momma wolf. However she herself gets lost in the woods and is tracked down by the wolves who then howl until the search party of humans come to find the lost child.
Research and Conceptual Design
Sketches, Layouts, and Character Design
Visited the public library and explored the children’s section
Found and checked out a few books including Wolf in the Snow in a variety of styles that spoke to me
Researched Matthew Cordell’s illustrations as well as Shel Silverstein and Peter Brown
Following the research began working on initial sketches, spread layouts and character design
Gestures, Expressions, and initial character design work
Rough sketches of spread ideas. I liked the idea of the re-uniting theme  one with the wolves and then the wolves reuniting and helping the lost girl.
Final Spreads
Utilized analog to digital, from scans of drawings drew out vector characters then with paintbrush tool set to charcoal drew over the shape's stroke line. Next I brought the scenes into Photoshop and digitally colored the spreads.
